Independence rumba

When Grand Kallé sang Indépendance Cha Cha, this rumba hit became the anthem not just of independence in Congo but across all of Africa. The sixties and seventies were an incredibly rich period for African music: an extraordinary generation of artists – in Cameroon, Mali, Ghana and across the continent – gave birth to a catalogue of songs that have remained firmly lodged in the collective memory of all Africans.
